City Lifts Mandatory Water Restrictions!

Effective immediately, the City of Cedar Park is ceasing mandatory water restrictions. The City entered Stage 2 of its Drought Contingency Plan on August 13th based on low water levels in Lake Travis. Thanks to recent rains and higher lake levels, the City’s ordinance does not require mandatory water restrictions at this time. The City is returning to Stage 1 of the Drought Contingency Plan which calls for voluntary compliance with the watering schedule.

While the mandatory restrictions have been lifted, the City of Cedar Park wants to remind everyone that it is still imperative to conserve water.

Here are some tips on how you can help:

     1. Follow the voluntary twice-a-week outdoor watering schedule:

          · Residential customer watering days:

o Last digit of their street address ending in even number: Thursday and Sunday

o Last digit of their street address ending in odd number: Wednesday and Saturday

          · Commercial customer watering days:

o All addresses: Tuesday and Friday

     2. Avoid outdoor watering between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.

     3. Water your lawn deeply and infrequently to promote a strong root system.

     4. Operate in-ground sprinkler system manually – don’t use the timer.

     5. Use soaker hoses instead of sprinklers to water trees, shrubs and beds more efficiently.

     6. Use plenty of mulch in your plant beds.

     7. Choose “water-wise” plants.

     8. Raise your lawnmower blade and cut grass to a height of 3 inches – this shades the soil, which reduces         evaporation and allows roots to grow deeper.

     9. Check for leaks in taps, pipes and hoses.
