TACS Program Wins National Award
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced on September 1, 2010 that the City of Cedar Park Citizen Corps program Teen Advocates for Community Safety (TACS) has won the 2010 National Citizen Corps Achievement Award. These awards will be presented in Washington D.C. on September 22-23, 2010.
FEMA accepts submissions from Citizen Corps from all over the nation each year and a panel of government officials review all applicants. The panel is looking for programs that exemplify excellence in community emergency planning, foster successful public-private partnerships, prioritize collaboration, demonstrate creative and innovative local problem solving, and implement sound programs that can be modeled for use by other communities. The Cedar Park’s TACS program is being recognized for its innovative practices and achievements of communities and individuals that make our neighborhoods safer, stronger and better prepared to manage any emergency situation. The TACS program illustrates how citizens can take action and do their part to be prepared.
Two representatives from the winning Cedar Park Citizen Corps TACS Council will be FEMA's honored guests at a meeting in Washington, D.C. as part of National Preparedness Month. Awardees will participate in a community preparedness roundtable discussion to share ideas and solutions regarding challenges in community preparedness with other award winning Councils, FEMA leadership, and Citizen Corps partners.
