Mitch was appointed Mayor Pro Tem on May 27, 2010 and has served on the City Council since August 2007. He was elected to full terms in 2008 and 2010. He is Cedar Park’s representative on and President of the Brushy Creek Regional Utility Authority (BCRUA), which was created to acquire water for the cities of Cedar Park, Leander, and Round Rock, TX. He has served as President of the BCRUA since March 2009 and served on the BCRUA Board of Directors since July 2008. His other community service includes the Board of Directors of the Cedar Park, Texas Economic Development Corporation (4A) from 2006-2007. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the National Guard Association of Texas and the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Alumni Association. Mitch is a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Reserve Officers Association. He is also a Charter Member of the Hunter-Morris American Legion Post 911 in Cedar Park. Mitch is also a Mason and a member of the Cedar Park Chamber of Commerce.
Mitch is employed by Bluebonnet MHMR in Round Rock, TX as a consultant tasked with Veteran Services Coordination in the seven-county Bluebonnet region. He is also an affiliate consultant for Strategic Partnerships, Inc. in Austin, TX. Mitch is a Captain in the Texas Army National Guard at Camp Mabry in Austin, Texas and served in Iraq from January 2005 to January 2006. His military decorations include the Bronze Star, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Combat Action Badge.
Prior to his military service, Mitch was a college professor. He taught political science at Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas and the University of Oklahoma while in graduate school there. Mitch is a Ph.D. candidate in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He also holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a BA in Political Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University.
From 1997-2000, Mitch served as the Special Assistant to former US Ambassador Edward Perkins, who at the time was the Executive Director of the International Programs Center at the University of Oklahoma. Mitch enjoyed this experience, which occurred during his graduate studies and allowed him to spend a lot of time at the United Nations in New York City and in Washington, DC. This experience fueled his growing interest in international relations and American politics.
Mitch lives in Cedar Park with his wife Erin, and has two children, daughter Madison, age 11, and son Braxton, age 9. His interests and hobbies include spending time with his family, community service, reading, and running.
